Thomas County Prison
Mission Statement: The Thomas County Prison serves the citizens of Thomas County in two significant ways. By protecting the public and effectively managing sentenced offenders and secondly by providing a reliable workforce for the citizens of Thomas County. The staff of Thomas County Prison encourages sentenced offenders to learn beneficial work skills, become active in educational and substance abuse programs, and utilize their incarceration time positively in a manner that will assist them in their re-entry into society.
Service to the Public
Thomas County Prison houses up to 200 inmates with a daily average population of 190 inmates. Of that number, 155 inmates are assigned to outside work details. The remaining inmates work inside the prison providing Food Service and Sanitation Services. We house 165 State Inmates under a State contract and 31 County Inmates for the local court Judges. The county receives a subsidy from the Department of Corrections currently at $20.00 per day, per state inmate that we house. This revenue accounts for 65 percent of the prison’s budget operational cost. The inmate labor force provides skilled and non-skilled labor for the daily operation of essential services forThomas County.
Through these skills our inmates provide cost savings in labor of 3.2 million dollars per year to the tax-payer.
