Chairman Ricky Smith called the meeting to order and Earl Williams opened with prayer.

 

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

 

Ervin Brock made a motion to approve the minutes from the 4-19-01 and 5-7-01 Board meetings.  Earl Williams seconded the motion.  All were in favor; the motion carried.

 

 

 

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

 

Executive Director Jack Smith made a recommendation that the ESA use the same at- risk Contractor for the new addition that the City of Thomasville is using for renovation of the Auditorium in City Hall.  Both the City and the ESA will benefit from this.  Bobby Brown made a motion that the Emergency Services Agency approve the concept and enter into negotiations with JCI as the at- risk Contractor for the new addition to Fire Station 1.  Roy Campbell seconded the motion.  With all in favor, the motion carried.

 

Mr. Smith reviewed the construction plans for the Coolidge Fire Station with Coolidge Volunteer Fire Chief Tommy Barrow.  After discussion, Ricky Smith made a motion to approve the plans for the Coolidge Fire Station.  Ervin Brock seconded the motion.  There was no opposition.  The motion carried.

 

Mr. Smith presented a request from EMS to write off delinquent accounts in the amount of  $17,788.17.  Roy Campbell made a motion to write off the delinquent accounts totaling $17,788.17.  Earl Williams seconded the motion.  With all in favor, the motion carried.

 

Executive Director Smith stated that the Fire Rescue Division is in need of a new Battalion vehicle.  Bid proposals have been received for a ¾ ton, extended cab pickup.  They are as follows:

 

                        Spence Olds                 $32,457.33                  GMC-Duramax Diesel

 

                        Thomasville Sales         $29,186.00                  Ford- Powerstroke

 

                        Plantation CPD $29,143.00                  Diesel

 

Roy Campbell made a motion to purchase the Ford from Thomasville Sales subject to bidding a state contract and if the local vendor is not more than 5% higher than the state, proceed with the purchase locally.  Bobby Brown seconded the motion.  With all in favor, the motion carried.  The existing vehicle will be used as a service vehicle.

 

Mr. Smith informed the Board that we are in the process of developing and designing a web site for the Thomas County Emergency Services Agency.  This will include a statistics page with call volume listed, Community events, etc.  The target date for completion is June 1, 2001 

 

                       

 

DEPARTMENT REPORTS

 

EMS

Captain Derrick Ogletree reported 1851 calls year to date with a total of 203 for May 1- May 19, 2001.  Community Safety Day will be held on Saturday, May 19th.  This will involve all divisions of the ESA including simulated E911 calling, First Responders, the Bike Team, the Life- Flight helicopter and more.

 

E911

Operations Manager Ann Powell reported 3,481 total calls dispatched for May 1- May 11th, 2001 with a total of 41,864 year-to-date.  There has been an average of 9,000-10,000 calls monthly.  Ms Powell reported that the CAD system has been upgraded.  EMD training is scheduled for next month and it is possible that we will receive financial assistance from Archbold Hospital for the course.

 

 

 

 

FIRE

Battalion Chief Ronald Roberts reported that the new Firehouse 5.0 software has been installed and implemented.  The Fire Department has been installing smoke detectors in the community and most homeowners have been very receptive.  Chief Roberts reported 106 calls for May 1 – May 16th, 2001.

 

 

VOLUNTEER FIRE

Coolidge Volunteer Fire Chief Tommy Barrow on behalf of the Volunteer Fire Department voiced appreciation to the Board for their support, new equipment, new turn-outs, and training exercises provided.  He stated that morale is very good.

 

 

With no further business to discuss, Roy Campbell made a motion to adjourn.  Earl Williams seconded the motion.  The meeting adjourned.
